Google Home vs Amazon Echo Show: Should you buy a smart speaker or a smart display?

If you are interested in using your digital assistant for video calls, the Echo’s two-way video calling feature is indeed more appealing. Also available is the Google Home Max, Google Home Mini, or Google Home Hub. As their names suggest, the Max is larger and the Mini is smaller. If you have a video doorbell that is compatible with the Hub, you can also see who is at your door. You can make video calls with the Hub but because it doesn’t have a camera, you will be able to see the person you are calling, but they will only be able to see your profile picture.
Smart speakers can read out the steps of a recipe, but smart displays keep the list front and center after they read it out. The Echo Show lets you multitask and watch videos or play music, then hop back to where you left off. The Home Hub and others with Google Assistant do that too, plus they keep the ingredient list on the side for your reference.

The growing crowd of smart speakers is ready for your command
This post reminded me of the importance in recognizing the different types of developing hardware/software around us. Whether one product has more features or not it’s good to take into account the technology that will prioritize and benefit your life specifically. Cooks and frequent Google app users who want to access Google Assistant via a screen will love this display, which is well-integrated with Google Calendar and Photos.
If you rely on the big G to keep a calendar, give you traffic updates, look for recipes and help you with deep dives into topics, Home is going to be a welcome extension to your smart home toolkit. We tested the Amazon Echo and the Google Home to see which smart speaker is best, and it was extremely close
If you don't, then Alexa will do the job perfectly well for your needs. Google is also slightly better with accents and languages, so if you live in a multi-lingual household, Google might be your winner. If you're using the Google Home, you'll plug the speaker in, download the Google Home app, and the device should automatically pop up in the app.
You could also go with a smart speaker if you want to save money, but I'd call the usefulness of the screen well worth the premium. So why do people keep buying the larger and still more costly “full-size” Echo and Home smart devices? Neither device brings tears to audiophile eyes, and both lines have audio-enhanced models in the Echo Plus and the Home Max, respectively.

Google Assistant doesn't have nearly as many third-party plug-ins, but it's much easier to talk to. It can understand different requests more easily than Alexa, and that's very appealing. The smartest thing to do is to try both and see which fits better with your lifestyle. There's no right or wrong approach really – Google's is simpler, but Alexa's encourages faster and broader development and support from third-parties.
Google wants users to have a true hands-free experience using the Google Assistant voice control. Are both affordable ways to try a smart speaker in your home. The Google Home app is used mostly for setup, though you still need to access it for things like shopping lists. This powerful speaker can also work with a Sonos multiroom audio system and be controlled by voice using either Alexa or Google Assistant. One of the other search-related advantages Google Assistant offers over Alexa is the ability to track the context of your queries based on previous inputs. For instance, after you ask “Hey Google, when did the Sex Pistols form? ” and receive your answer, you can follow up with “Hey Google, who was the lead singer?
Both smart speakers provide answers to questions, control certain home devices, set alarms and timers, and more. Each device is genuinely an assistant in digital form, waiting for you to give voice commands. If you have more than one user account, the Nest Mini can even differentiate who is talking by the sound of their voice . But the Google portion of the Nest Mini isn’t quite as capable as we’d like.
However, in our time with the device, we didn’t actually find much use for that feature. When it comes to answering life’s questions, big or small, Google’s main advantage over Alexa is, well, Google. In countless hours of testing, Google Assistant attempts to answer more questions, offers a bit more contextual information, and usually gives a longer answer than Alexa almost every time. However, Alexa can generally perform a wide range of tasks including ordering your Uber, shopping for or reading audiobooks and even receiving incoming calls. Both devices offer a relatively comparable variety of services, features and skills.
